Thou Shall, Thou Shall Not….

The great preparation that beloved Moses endured to withstand and absorb the true meaning of each Commandment of God so he could teach and be fulfilled took many more days of time than men have translated it to be. Each commandment, when delivered, had a power in it, God-given, else it could never have remained such a solid state for all years. It would have been cast aside and then forgotten, as so many biblical stories have been.

In the 11th anniversary issue of FOOD, The Philippine Largest Selling Culinary Magazine, expert chefs, culinary instructors, shared their own commandments for virtuous of cooking, and without meaning to do God one better instead of 10, they imparted 11 commandments of “Thou Shall & Thou Shall Not”.

  1. Thou shall familiarize thyself with the Mailard reactions.
  2. Thou shall not kill natural flavors.
  3. Thou shall cook with good wine.
  4. Thou shall season and let the layers of flavors to develop.
  5. Thou shall simmer.
  6. Thou shall use only high-quality ingredients.
  7. Thou shall be joyful while cooking.
  8. Thou shall be organized in the kitchen.
  9. Thou shall always trust thy own taste.
  10. Thou shall salt lightly at the start of cooking.
  11. Thou shall be patient.
We just don’t want to get the point of fancy cuisine, no matter how much we all know, or think we know about cooking, there are always valuable lessons out there on food preparation waiting to be learned. If we cook the recipe correctly, it’s a heavenly taste will be your reward. With a bit of imagination, it can become a festival of flavors, even better it will make your guests oooh! and ahhh! over your recipe and compliment you on how serene and unfazed you look despite all the preparations and cooking you did.

So, dear readers, remember the 11 Commandments, and from hereon, go forth and sin no more.
